Okay. This hack has an esoteric side.
I promise it’s also super practical.
Along with being very esoteric. Cover all the bases, yeah?
“If you don’t receive enough, have a look if you give enough.”

The Practical Part
Let’s take me, as an example. I think that will be more relatable than some fictionalized Sassy Suzie Sunshine for the purposes of this story.
I want to be a food writer. I don’t have clips, experience, contacts. Nada.
Food blogs take a lot of time, effort & energy to build. I will totally have one in the future but now is not the time.
This interest needs an outlet though! And experience benefiting my future food writing career would be lovely.
So Caitlin sits around, creating meals, dishes, flavors, absorbing facts and writing stories in her head. Strangling on un-used creativity. Possibly rupturing something.
Is this healthy for a person? No! Does anyone benefit from this? No!
But guess what she can do? She can apply for a part-time volunteer position writing about food. Perhaps interviewing refugee restaurant owners and writing about their work. Perhaps contributing to a handout on cheap, deliciously nutritious meals for low-income families.
There are so many ways to help the community with this hack! Let your imagination (and local Google searches) run wild!
Let’s review the benefits:
- Interviewing experience
- Food writing experience
- Niche clips for her writing samples
- Possibly meeting people in the local food industry
Volunteer Match on LinkedIn is a fantastic, easy way to get connected with location-specific volunteer jobs! I’m thrilled with all that LinkedIn has done to improve the platform and suggesting volunteer jobs is a small, awesome slice of that.
The Esoteric Part
Our universe is energy. All matter is energy. Prayer is energy.
You must give with open hands and a generous heart to also receive.
Why not try it? Practice donating your time & effort to learn and give these valuable skills to folks who need them.
You never know what will come out of it! :)
“Just like you can’t reap a harvest without planting seeds, so you can’t get without giving.”
― Debasish Mridha
Thank you for reading! I am totally trying this myself right now by applying to a volunteer food writing position. What kind of volunteer job would help further your dream career?! I can’t wait to hear if this helped you too! :)
